About the Awards
The MyPorter Awards are a national celebration of all things Portering. Initially started in 2020 as a virtual event - GV Healthcare, the creators of MyPorter saw first-hand from working with numerous hospitals how deserving of recognition porters were. Doctors and Nurses quite rightly gain lots of praise and exposure for the great work they do, but without the porters, the hospitals would grind to a halt. As a company we felt we wanted to give portering teams that day in the spotlight that shows them the appreciation other healthcare workers often receive.
2022 saw the hosting of the first ever live MyPorter Awards ceremony in central London, expanded from the initial MyPorter Award to now encompass 6 awards, covering everything from team of the year to leadership of the year and everything inbetween. The award categories and their descriptions can be found below.

The Dennis Southern Award - For Endeavour
The Dennis Southern Award - For Endeavour
This award is presented in honour of Dennis Southern, a porter that showed commitment, dedication, passion and care through his career and had a positive impact on every individual that met him, whether that was a member of staff, a patient or patients family member. He encompassed everything that a porter needs to be and more. This award is to celebrate him and the individuals within our NHS portering services who embody Dennis' morals, ethics and outlook. A longstanding member of the team and a
true porter that all porter's can look up to and be proud of. Think of this as a lifetime achievement award - someone who has dedicated many years' of their life to portering.
The Dennis Southern Award - For Endeavour
Portering Team of The Year Award
This award is for the portering team that have shown extraordinary resilience, teamwork and contribution to their Trust. All portering teams have had to adapt and overcome huge difficulties due to the pandemic, this award is to shine a light and recognise a team that have excelled and dealt with this adaptation with incredible success. This is for a team that go above and beyond and show the spirit that embodies that of true teamwork - everyone puts their all in, together.
The Dennis Southern Award - For Endeavour
Outstanding Contribution to Patient Experience Award
This award is to recognise an individual example of going the extra mile for a patient/visitor.
To highlight a porter (or porters) that have surpassed reasonable expectations of thought and
care within their duty. Maybe they have gone out of their way to do something special for a patient - a duty which wasn't expected of them? Maybe they did something to cheer a patient up or make them feel settled in what can be a worrying environment for some patients. Maybe they're part-time singers, dancers, comedians or magicians just for the patients? It's all about those random acts of kindness which bring a smile to a patient.
The Dennis Southern Award - For Endeavour
Leadership of The Year Award
This award is for outstanding leadership and recognises those managers/supervisors that
lead and guide their teams with understanding, patience, dedication and positive leadership.
They make coming to work a real joy for their staff and are a pleasure to work for.
They are fair, show compassion and make those key decisions when needed.
The Dennis Southern Award - For Endeavour
Newcomer of The Year Award
This is an award that recognises an appetite to learn and do well from the moment this person stepped through those hospital doors. As Facilities Teams face a shortfall in staff and a need to bring in 'new blood', this award aims to shine a light on someone who has taken to the role of porter and can be seen as a benchmark for success to encourage others to follow suit - helping to show portering as a positive and possible career option.
